Abdominoplasty

Preparing for the procedure.

    Should take two weeks off from work for the procedure.
  • 3_1
    Abstain from alcohol/smoking for one month before and after the procedure.
  • 3_1
    Refrain from taking any medication in the aspirin group, and any supplements that affect blood-clotting at least one month before and after the procedure.
  • 3_1
    Should notify physician of any chronic, underlying disease (eg. breast cancer, auto-immune disease, etc.) and psychological disease (eg. depressive disorder, anxiety disorder, etc.), and any history of drug allergies.
  • 3_1
    Fast six to eight hours before the procedure.
  • 3_1
    Having a personal caretaker with you is highly recommended, and avoid driving any vehicles post-procedure.

Post-procedure recovery.

  • 3_1
    Patients should sleep with their head slightly elevated, while also bending their knees at a 30 degree angle.
  • 3_1
    Keep the surgical wound dry until the removal of the stitches.
  • 3_1
    Do not remove the abdomen tightening garment for five days after the procedure.
  • 3_1
    Compression garments must be worn at all times, except when showering for one month after the procedure.
  • 3_1
    Avoid coughing heavily for the first six months after the procedure, for that it could cause an incision scar to rupture.
  • 3_1
    Refrain from consuming food that could cause constipation, consuming fruits, vegetables and water for six months after the procedure should limit constipation from occurring.

    Showering is allowed five days after the procedure, but do avoid the incision area.

    Refrain from doing heavy exercises for three to six months after the procedure, due to the risk of the incision scar rupturing. However light-exercises are acceptable one month after the surgery.

    Refrain from lifting heavy objects for six months after the procedure.

    Refrain from sexual intercourse or any activity that increases blood pressure for two weeks after the procedure.
